SOLACE

SOLACE, an exhibition by Donegal-based visual artist Selena Mowat explores the cognitive states of painting through memory, narrative and the natural environment. This exhibition comments on the explorative nature of paint, looking at our relationship with the landscape as a meditative and healing space.

Solace features both large and small-scale artworks depicting imagined landscapes and ethereal dreamscapes in oil and watercolour, presented both collectively and in isolation, mirroring the artist’s studio practise where multiple paintings are produced simultaneously. This body of work plays with colour and mark-making as narrative tools and emotive triggers in response to the Donegal landscape.  The technique of building up textural surfaces and layered washes is a trait characteristic of Selena’s work that has developed over the years. It intends to be both intimate and engaging to the viewer, inviting us to enter and escape into her world with her unique artistic vision of beauty.
