ON THE NATURAL…my universe is infinite friendly… working from memory and listening to a back catalogue of music to evoke past events and nostalgic scenes, my primary focus was to concentrate on developing my technique as a painter. Most of the work for the show is on wood but there are a few larger pieces that are on canvas, so I had to re-learn how to work with oil on this material alongside developing new processes for working on wood using different application techniques. I wanted each painting to contain a visual stillness or atmosphere, capturing isolated moments or experiences in nature through colour and mark-making alone.
